  Intellectual Assessment

Intellectual assessment focuses on a child’s mental or cognitive potential and offers an in-depth view of the child’s functioning in the area of verbal ability, nonverbal ability, processing speed, and working memory.  Focus is on identifying the current level and rate of development in the area of reasoning ability and cognitive proficiency; identifying asynchronies in development; identifying strengths and weaknesses in the cognitive profile; and identifying preferred thinking and problem-solving style.  Dr. Newman uses Wechsler Primary Preschool Scale of Intelligence, Fourth Edition (WPPSI-IV), Wechsler Intelligence Scale for Children, Fourth Edition (WISC-IV); and Wechsler Adult Intelligence Test, Fourth Edition (WAIS-IV).  When appropriate, Dr. Newman will use extended norms for highly gifted children, out of level testing, out of limits testing, supplemental subtests, and will select the type of statistics and interpretation to best capture child’s true abilities and profile of strengths and weaknesses.
